Tarik Bordjiba | université 8 Mai 1945 Guelma

Bordjiba Tarik is currently a full Professor of Materials Science, Energy and Process Engineering at 8 Mai 1945 Guelma University, Guelma, Algeria. He earned a B.S. in solid-state physics from the Université des Frères Mentouri Constantine, Algeria in 1997, then the Magister from the same university in 2000. In 2007, he obtained a Ph. D. in Energy and materials sciences from the Institut National de la Recherche Scientifique, Energy Materials Telecommunications research center (INRS-EMT), Varennes (Québec), Canada .

In 2008, he performed research as postdoctoral researcher at Chemistry department, Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM), Montreal, Canada. In 2009, Dr. Bordjiba Tarik was promoted to associated researcher at Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM), Montreal, Canada. In 2011, Dr. Bordjiba Tarik was hired as Lecturer Class B at the Department of Process Engineering, Université 8 Mai 1945 Guelma, Guelma, Algeria. In 2012, he was promoted to Senior Lecturer Class B. In 2014 he was promoted to Senior Lecturer Class A. In 2019, Dr. Bordjiba Tarik was promoted to the rank of full professor.

Professor Bordjiba Tarik is a team leader and founder of Renewable Energy Research Team at 8 Mai 1945 Guelma University. His research interests include the development of material for renewable energy (more details will be presented in research interests section). Professor Bordjiba Tarik is an active member of several scientific and administrative committees and councils at 8 Mai 1945 Guelma University such as: Departmental Scientific Committee, Scientific Council of the Faculty, Board of the University. He, also, chargé de mission for the Vice Rectorate of Postgraduate Education, and Scientific Research of 8 Mai 1945 Guelma University.

Professor Bordjiba Tarik is regular reviewer for several journals such as: the Journal of the Electrochemical Society, Electrochimica acta, Electrochemistry Communication, Thin Solid Films, Journal of Electroanalytical Chemistry, Journal of Solid State Electrochemistry and ACS Nano. He received some awards for his reviewing activities like awarded Elsevier Outstanding Reviewer. He is a member of The UNESCO Chair Materials and technologies for energy conversation and saving and storage (MATECSS).

Research interest:

The growing energy consumption and damaging environmental effect of fossil energy resources are some of the major defies for modern society. A promising solution to the global energy problem is the development of the powerful, durable and cheap renewable energy devices and systems. The development of such systems is limited by the exploitation of conventional materials. Nanomaterials innovation can provide unique technological opportunities for addressing some of these challenges. Bordjiba’s research has focused on the development of nanomaterials for new energy systems such as high-performance supercapacitors.

Efficient energy storage remains a critical need for developing renewable energy systems. In addition to storing electrical energy from renewable sources and, thus, solving the intermittency problem associated with them, suepercapacitors are key components in various portable electronic devices and in hybrid electric vehicles. Research efforts in supercapacitors have focused on the electrodes materials. Advanced nanomaterials based on graphene materials are good candidates for a high-performance electrode material. To achieve both rapid charge/discharge and high power density, he has developed nanocomposites materials base on graphene and nanostructured metal oxide for electrochemical capacitors, and then achieved a high specific capacitance than that of the present metal oxide based electrochemical capacitors. Furthermore, to enhance their performances, we also tried the electrode modification of nanomaterials. These results indicated that development of modified nanocomposite materials are very important toward realization of next generation renewable energy devices. From both viewpoints of applications and fundamental sciences, he is trying to investigate advanced materials and discover novel principles now.
